Overview

Focus Demolition were tasked with the demolition of the Hester Avenue Bridge as part of the wider Mitchell Freeway extension project.

The project presented unique challenges, including a strict 76-hour round-the-clock shutdown period for the demolition of the precast concrete rail tunnel structure and the requirement to complete all preparation works during live rail operations on the Joondalup PTA line. Our team worked closely with the client, CPB Contractors, to develop a meticulous, hourly work program that left no room for error.

Results

Through extensive planning and consideration of all potential risks, Focus Demolition’s management team ensured that the dismantling of the panels and removal of the footings was completed ahead of schedule, without any incidents or damage to the rail infrastructure.

The successful completion of the Hester Avenue Bridge demolition showcases Focus Demolition’s ability to overcome challenges, meet strict deadlines, and maintain the highest level of safety while working in sensitive environments, such as live rail operations.
